Swedish Police Visit Blackpool

Six police officers from Sweden have visited Blackpool to look at Neighbourhood Policing teams and how their close community links are making that vital difference.

The Swedish officers will join local officers going about their duties in the Reassurance Plus areas.  This will involve meeting the local Neighbourhood teams, going out on patrol with Community Beat Managers, attending a Reassurance Panel Meeting, as well as meeting Councillors and PACT panel members.

Blackpool Council’s Heads of Neighbourhood Services Managers and their respective Community Beat Managers will be explaining how Reassurance Plus works and how the Neighbourhood policing teams have worked closely with the community to make a real difference in these areas.  Presentations will take place at Blackpool South Police Station and the Windmill Housing Association Office in Central.

Inspector Keith Ogle has organised the itinerary for the officers. He said: "We are delighted that our Swedish colleagues are joining us to look at some of the innovative partnership work taking place here in Blackpool.

“We are also looking forward to possibly being able to exchange ideas about how we address problems and although they have come here to learn from us I’m sure our officers will gain valuable information from them.”

(L-R) Michael Cooney, Neighbourhood Manager at Blackpool Council, Jenny Goransson, Sarah Salisbury, Community Police Officer, and Niklas Kraft.

Cllr Tony Williams, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Culture said: “Blackpool has been recognised as a leader in its approach to Neighbourhood Management. The key to this recognition is the Council's preparedness to engagewithall interested parties in the development of deprived Neighbourhoods.

“Reassurance Plus in Blackpool is beginning to gain local, national and now international acknowledgement. The Council welcomes the Swedish Police Officers visit with open arms and looks forward to an exchange of ideas which ultimately may benefit both our respective communities."
