More Pedal Power for Neighbourhood Policing Teams
Two local Neighbourhood policing teams are getting on their bikes, thanks to help from BSafe Blackpool, the local crime reduction partnership.
Four bikes have been funded for the two South policing teams working in Haweside and Clifton.
Mark Stringfellow believes this is certainly money well spent. He says, "It means that we are still visible and approachable and can cover the area quickly. Because they are mountain bikes we can cover any rough ground making sure offenders do not escape us.
“I thoroughly enjoy the cycling and in addition to keeping us all fit, it means that we can provide reassurance to the local community as well as acting as a visible deterrent to offenders.
"We are hoping that local people will stop us if they see us and let us know if they have any concerns. Actually speaking to people is one of the best parts of the job.”

PC Sarah Darwen who manages Haweside ward says it is going to improve the level of service the team can provide. She says, “When we patrol in cars there is obviously a barrier between ourselves and the people we look after. The bikes mean we can get to people quickly should they need help and I find that people are happier to come up and speak to us when we are patrolling on bikes.”
Paolo Pertica, Head of BSafe Blackpool, said: "Bobbies on bikeshave traditionally been very popular with residents in the community, and we are pleased to be further extending this type of patrolling. Notonly do officers become a familiar face in the given neighbourhoods but cycling isseen by the Council to be a environmentally-friendly and cost-effective form of transport."
