Be Car Crime Cautious
Now summer is underway and the kids are off school, Bsafe Blackpool is issuing a warning for all residents to remain cautious about car crime whenever they are travelling over the busy summer months.
Although car crime in Blackpool is at an all time low, having dropped ten percent in the last year, the message is to stay alert at a time when seaside resorts in particular are very busy.
So, Bsafe Blackpool is urging residents not to let summer heat go to their heads whether they are simply driving the kids to the prom or packing up and setting off for a holiday at home or abroad.
Some vehicles have been made specific targets to thieves due to the increased investment in satellite navigation.
The best advice regarding satellite navigation systems is to take them with you when you leave your vehicle. Where possible, do not even leave the cradle on display and if you have to leave them it is simply not enough to hide them in your glove box, as this is the first place thieves will look.
Thieves are opportunist so be sure to always lock all doors, windows and sunroofs and don’t forget to wipe away any suction pad marks left on the windscreen or dashboard as thieves will look out for these.
Cllr Sue Wright, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Community Safety said: “At all times of year it is essential for residents to take these precautions to beat car crime especially with the appeal of new technologies. Bsafe Blackpool wants people to have fun in the summer and we urge you all to keep up the good work and help us to keep reducing car crime.”
Residents are urged to try and use car parks approved by The Safer Parking Scheme, which provide parking in a safe and secure environment.
